SHANNON PHILLIPS - "Monroe's Mushroom Man"

Over the past few years, by delving into available research, reading, videos, additional workshops and working with mentors I learned much about the fungi kingdom. I not only can identify wild edible fungi but also culture them for my own collections. Through trial and error I learned to make cultures and spawn. I began experiencing consistent success with this challenging hobby which progressed to growing edible, culinary mushrooms. The tending and care of mushrooms led to the establishment of Winding Brook Farms – Mushrooms and More! We sell our beauties at the Union County Farmers Market every weekend and there are several local businesses that carry our products. I have challenged myself by educating others about fungi and by gaining my Wild Mushroom Forger certification. Currently I have begun research in the field of mycology with the opening of a small lab in downtown Monroe, NC. And so the journey continues….

TERESA HIGGINS - "Mindful Mushroom Maven"

It has been my joy to write inspiring educational curriculum and to teach preschool people, elementary  kids, teens and adults.  The thrill of witnessing someone  learn something new is an true honor.  At Winding Brook Farms - mushrooms & more  my creativity has come in handy; from tending our gardens and animals, creating wildlife habitat spaces, developing mushroom classes, organizing and participating in community events and designing the advertising for our busy  farm.  As of late, I have been investigating and researching how mushrooms can impact our health and wellbeing.  Fungi is fascinating. Smile and just keep swimming.....

THE COZY FUNGI FARM

We are a bespoke mushroom farm located right outside the heart of downtown Monroe, North Carolina. When we first met if anyone had told us that in the future we would be working together running a small farm we would have said "that's crazy." Growing up as two country kids it was the farthest  idea from our imagination! Yet serendipity prevailed and today we grow a variety of culinary mushrooms and educate folks about fungi, flora and fauna. Our mission at Winding Brook Farms is "doing good while nurturing connections and community." At Winding Brook Farms - mushrooms & more we want to nourish our neighbors near and far. We believe that no one, especially children, should go hungry. 10% of our profits go to our local community and national organizations to combat hunger.
